-(는) 중이다 : Present progressive in Korean






VERB + -는 중이다

NOUN + - 중이다





✔︎ This form is added to a verb or noun. 


E.g.


저는 저녁을 먹는 중이에요.

I’m eating dinner.


남동생은 학교에 가는 중이에요. 

My brother is going to school.






✔︎ When it’s a noun, usually it’s the noun 

came from the verb ending by ‘-하다'.


E.g.


청소하다(clean) ;  엄마는 청소 중이에요. 

My mother is cleaning. 


공부하다(study) ;  시험 공부 중이에요.

I’m studying for the exam.


연애하다(date) ;  친구는 연애 중이에요.

My friend is dating someone.






✔︎ When it’s about the natural occurrence,

‘- (는)중’ is not allowed

but you have to use ‘VERB-고 있다'.


E.g. It’s raining.

❌비가 오는 중이에요.

⭕️비가 오고 있어요.
